The Lion King

Picture
This week has been dominated by getting a rather colourful lion made in time for a client as wall art for his office. The brief was to provide a stunning piece of sequin art in the shape of a lion but with a real “wow” factor. I started with a much more muted picture and then added lots of colour sequin by sequin on the design app until I was totally happy with the result. However as the lion was a commission, the client had the last word and I ended up going back to the design three times to make the picture more colourful.

Making the Lion King:

Of course once the client was happy with the design I had to make the lion. As this was a colourful design and used virtually every colour we currently have in our colour palette it took longer than my normal designs. In total this took 8 hours to place the sequins for this picture (I don’t profess to be the fastest at this!) and I was a bit wary about getting a single sequin out of place, although with a picture such as this it probably wouldn’t notice and which is what makes each shimmerwall unique. The Shimmerwalls always look best with colours that are well contrasted, also the sequins pick up colours in the room and from lights which gives them that unique shimmering and sparkling effect. I used holographic sequins in the picture also as they in particular pick up colours and can look multi-coloured rather than silver because of their facets.

Where did the lion sequin art go?

The client was stunned by the finished lion which was mounted on a canvas frame and ready to hang. The lion now sits pride of place behind the client’s desk so the picture is seen as someone walks in the door and definitely creates the “wow” effect the client wanted. This commission has definitely inspired me to make some more animal designs… if anyone would like a zebra please let me know!

If you’ve made up any animals with your Shimmerwalls let me know, we could have a special section on the website…
Until next time..
