In the run-up to Christmas, Shimmerwalls was tasked with a spectacular challenge: build a 900m2 Shimmerwall on the façade of the famous Jelmoli shopping centre in Zurich, Switzerland. Designed by the well-known creative director Petros Ahreas, the sequin wall was a mesmerising dark gold, using our Standard 30mm sequins. Shimmerwalls also supplied 31 window displays in the Jelmoli complex, drawing crowds from all over Zurich to take a look inside. |
900m2 Shimmerwall Facade
The 32 windows of the Jelmoli store are a famous landmark and are well known for their creativity and ability to make interesting and visually beautiful displays in the windows and inside the store, at present they change their windows design every two months. The team at Jelmoli wanted to do the most visually stunning and "wow" effect which would create a real sense of excitement in Zurich.
On our visit to meet the team at Jelmoli we were impressed by their creativity and the fact they wanted to make such a show-stopping sequin facade – the biggest Shimmerwall ever made. This production of over 10,000 of our Shimmerclick boards meant careful scheduling so we could keep our other work still running alongside this project.

10,000 Gold Satin ShimmerClick® Panels
With a colour scheme of ivory white fabrics within the store visual merchandising plan, the team at Jelmoli chose our lovely gold satin colour (code GDM04) in circle sequins. This colour added a high end feel to the installation and perfectly matched the other elements of the store design for Christmas. After having assessed all of the options, the Jelmoli team chose our Shimmerclick boards due to their strong and visually pleasing visual merchandising qualities.
Shimmerwalls sequin panels were chosen for their superior strength (we use German Bayer materials which we make into the Shimmerclick grids as it is the strongest on the market). The Shimmerclick panels have an easy click-together modular system which meant this was an easier installation than other boards which do not have our proprietary system (designed and developed by Shimmerwalls and only available from us). It was important to Jelmoli that as the sequin panel facade would be covering the windows of the first, second and third levels of the store, they wanted a system that allowed light to still enter the store.

Custom Sparkle Lit and Motorised Signage
The specially made lights and signage for "Jelmoli Christmas Factory" are a special type of sign that throws rays of light onto the wall surfaces around it and were used on plain walls and on top of some of the sequin panels in the window displays. These lights even had motorised turning "cogs" to reference the Swiss theme. These were made by our sister company NeonExperts https://www.neonexperts.com/ and really added to the overall Christmas theme.
Jelmoli definitely had a lot of interest following this sequin panel installation as it was featured on Swiss and Austrian TV channels and written about in the news publications. We were also contacted by people that had heard about the sequin facade and had made a visit to Jelmoli to see what the excitement was about.
